The term ‘bioclimatic’ refers to bioclimatology or discipline that studies the relationship between climate and living things. In this context, it can be affirmed that bioclimatic architecture refers to the use of environmental conditions for the benefit of the needs of the users of a home.

When designing a building, this type of architecture is based on the climatic conditions of the environment in order to take advantage of the available resources with the least environmental impact and in order to obtain the lowest possible energy consumption for the home.

The traditional thermal draft system with flow and temperature control makes sense in this type of home, but it is difficult to design and limiting when it comes to construction. In contrast, controlled mechanical ventilation can provide the bioclimatic home with optimal conditions for users in terms of renovation and air quality with the aim of achieving high levels of sanitation.

In addition, it can also provide the necessary air conditioning for optimum thermal comfort if the construction has faithfully followed the rest of the previous parameters, in terms of orientation, insulation, etc. The use of these ventilation systems also prevents problems of humidity, mold, and the proliferation of mites and other polluting elements in the interior environment.

Adequate ventilation, with a greater degree of fresh air supply, use of the correct types of air particulate filters, and careful maintenance can be important factors in the containment of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Breathing, as well as coughing and sneezing, releases tiny infectious droplets into the air that can contaminate the surrounding surfaces and, of course, the surrounding air. While normal air filters are not designed to prevent the spread of viruses, they are essential to minimize the risk, as viruses tend to adhere to airborne particles and aerosols. Therefore, regular filters with high filtration efficiency (ePM1 filters) are crucial to reducing the risk of airborne diseases.

It is recommended to replace them with filters with a MERV 13 rating, which are designed to filter out viruses and bacteria in the air.

In addition to updating filters, companies should also increase the frequency with which they replace filters, and if they generally change filters on a quarterly basis, doing so every 30 days, for example.

  1. First, choose an efficient device. All appliances have an identification label indicating the degree of efficiency it has. The letter A, accompanied by “+” and the color green, is indicative of an energy-efficient device. Acquiring an efficient appliance saves 40% on energy consumption.
  2. Install the devices as far away from direct sunlight as possible. If the sun constantly gives you it can not only damage the system, but it will cost you more to function and therefore consume more.
  3. Set the device at a medium temperature. The thermostat should be set at 24 degrees, however, the body must adapt to the Summer temperature, and you should go with lighter clothes and set the thermostat at 26 degrees. You should know that the maximum difference between the temperature outside and inside must be 12 degrees. Every degree of difference you put, you will consume 8% more energy.
  4. If you have it, install the Eco mode, as it allows you to reduce consumption by 30%.
  5. Avoid putting it at night. Also if you have a special mode of lower consumption, it is better to lie down when it is fresh and turn it off. Open the windows to make current and reduce many hours of consumption.
  6. Insulate your home. Good insulation maintains the indoor temperature. At night, open windows and shutters, letting the air in, and in the morning, when the sun goes down, lower the blinds to keep the indoor temperature and prevent it from heating.
  7. Clean the device regularly. The air filters, when they are dirty, force the unit to consume more energy than usual to be able to cool.
